Punjab witnessed a significant change in weather during last 24 hours as light to moderate rainfall was recorded at most places across state.

Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated locations while thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hailstorms were also reported in some areas and according to weather department the rainfall brought relief from intense heat that had affected many parts of Punjab in recent days and with this the highest maximum temperature in state was recorded at 41.5 degrees Celsius in Faridkot while lowest minimum temperature was 19.8 degrees Celsius at Ballowal Saunkari in SBS Nagar district.

Several districts received notable rainfall on June 12 and as per data shared by IMD Nawanshahr recorded 7 cm of rain which was highest in state. Ballowal Saunkari received 4 cm. Amritsar, Tibri, Gurdaspur AMFU, Aliwal, Tarn Taran, Garhshankar, Dhariwal Irrigation, Ghanauli and Adampur each recorded around 3 cm of rainfall while Gurdaspur, Bathinda and Rajpura also received rainfall above 1 cm.

The weather department has forecast that rainy spell will continue across Punjab over next few days and light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places on June 12 at a few places on June 13 and at isolated places in following days along with this a fall of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is expected during next 24 hours and after that temperatures are likely to rise again by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.

For June 13 thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, Rupnagar and SAS Nagar (Mohali) and along with this light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places in these districts and at isolated places in several other districts including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Patiala and Sangrur.

On June 14 similar weather conditions are expected in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa and no weather warnings have been issued for June 15 and 16 however light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in several districts of Punjab on both days.

So to put it all simply the forecast indicates that rain activity may continue in parts of Punjab until at least June 16.
