Punjab is likely to see dry weather over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing no weather warning for the state from September 21 to September 27 as the latest IMD warning bulletin lists no warning for Punjab on September 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 or 27.
The forecast comes as the southwest monsoon begins its seasonal withdrawal from northwest India. According to the IMD, the monsoon withdrew from some parts of West Rajasthan on September 19, after conditions became favourable for its retreat.
For Punjab residents, this means the immediate weather outlook is largely dry, with no rain or severe-weather warning indicated in the latest seven-day forecast, and a dry spell over Punjab and Haryana had also been forecast from around September 20 as the monsoon withdrawal process got underway.
With September moving towards its final days, attention is also turning to when colder weather will begin in Punjab, however, the IMD has not yet issued its official winter outlook for the 2026-27 season. Therefore, claims about a delayed or warmer winter should not be treated as an official forecast at this stage.
The IMD's recent focus has remained on the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, a its September 18 update said conditions were becoming favourable for withdrawal from parts of West Rajasthan around September 19, which was subsequently confirmed by the department.
Punjab's transition towards colder weather usually depends on changing wind patterns and weather systems affecting northwest India and western disturbances are among the systems associated with changes in winter weather over the region.
Last year, Punjab recorded a formal cold-wave spell by late November.
The IMD had issued its first cold-wave declaration for the state on November 27, 2025, while some districts had already recorded significantly lower temperatures earlier in November, for now, however, there is no official indication of an early winter or a delayed winter for Punjab this year. The immediate forecast is much clearer: dry weather is expected to continue across the state, with no warnings through September 27.
