Why is Punjab witnessing chilly nights?

  • Clear skies & low cloud cover: With fewer clouds holding heat in, surface cooling after sunset is intensified, causing quicker temperature drops.

  • Dry, calm air: Lower humidity and lighter winds overnight reduce the mixing of warmer air and allow the ground to lose heat more rapidly.

  • Large day-night swing (diurnal range): Warm afternoons (~26-28 °C) followed by nights dipping to ~9-12 °C create a big temperature contrast, making the night chill more obvious.

  • Shorter day-length & lower sun angle: At this time of year, the sun’s energy is weaker and days are shorter, meaning less accumulated warmth and thus cooler base temperatures overnight.
