Zepto delivery rider critically injured after alleged assault in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue

A shocking case of alleged hooliganism has surfaced in the city around 10:00 Pm on 30 august, Thursday, near the Ram Mandir in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue. A Zepto delivery rider was allegedly subjected to a life-threatening assault by a group of young men. The rider sustained serious injuries and is reported to be in critical condition.

Series of events

According to available information, the Zepto rider, Vinay Seth, was on his motorcycle returning back from work, when a car carrying several young men allegedly hit his bike. The impact caused Vinay to fall onto the road, after which the accused allegedly attacked him brutally. It is alleged that the assailants struck him on the head with a sharp object, fracturing his skull. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was rushed to a hospital, where his condition remains critical.

Previous rivalry

The incident is connected to an old rivalry between the victim and the accused. According to the victim’s mother Sunita, 2 months earlier the accused who are their neighbours had a fight with a boy. Amidst the fight, victim Vinay was unnecessarily dragged and hit by the three accused identified as Kamal Sondhi, Varun Sondhi and Sumit Sondhi. She also alleged that due to this enmity, the victim was hit yesterday with Kirpans near Ram Mandir

Frequent violence and threats

According to victim’s brother Navdeep, the violence by the accused was very often and they would also threaten the family. Despite lodging several complaints to the police against the accused, no strict actions were taken. The brother said that the accused are father and sons. He allege that the sons are unemployed and don’t fear anybody.

He also said that police is not taking any action despite of filing 4-5 complaints against the accused. He said the doctors have also denied any treatment because of the serious situation of the victim and the police is also delaying the process.

Allegations by the family

The victim's family claims that the attackers assaulted their son over a trivial issue. They have lodged a complaint with the police but allege that no concrete action has been taken against the accused so far. Vinay's mother and brother have urged the police administration to take strict action against the assailants, arrest all those involved at the earliest, and ensure they are brought to justice.
