Biggest upsets in the history of T20 WC as per ICC

4 of the top 11 upsets in the history of the T20 World Cup released by ICC came in 2022 itself, at the top is Ireland’s stunning victory against England by 5 runs in the rain-affected match.

The greatest shocker for South Africa in years this year cost them an almost sealed Semi-Final berth, however, the Netherland’s 13 runs delightful triumph changed the fortune giving Pakistan an edge.

Sikandar Raza’s heroics propelled the match to the last ball thriller handing Zimbabwe the biggest victory in years beating the top-class Pakistani side by a run.

The Asian champions Sri Lanka received a beating in the tournament opener against the underdog Namibia in the qualifier by a whopping 55 runs, however, still made it to the final 12 ahead.

Ireland has ensured some of the greatest upsets in history over the formats of the ICC events, one such came against Bangladesh in the 2009 edition by a crunching 6 wickets all-round display.

Despite being a stable side for years on the trot, Bangladesh has featured on the wrong side of the upset. Losing to Hong Kong by 2 wickets in the 2014 T20 World Cup edition.

A third one for the Bangla Tiger came against Scotland in the 2021 T20 WC edition held in Dubai in a thrilling match by a close margin of 6 runs.

The Netherlands thrashed 2010 champions England back in 2014 by a margin of 45 runs dashing their Semi-Final hopes an episode of defeat they repeated from the 2009 T20 World Cup.

The first of the other two upsets featured by ICC comes from Zimbabwe against Australia by 5 wickets in the inaugural edition and Afghanistan defeating the eventual champion West Indies by 6 runs in 2016.
