Former Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner Sukhwinder Singh get 5-year jail in bribery scandal

Ruby Kapoor, 48-year-old son of Joginder Pal, was also sentenced to 5-year jail in the same case as it is believed that he was involved with Sukhwinder Singh.

In a major development, Former Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner Sukhwinder Singh has been sentenced to 5 years of jail in the ongoing corruption case. It is to be noted that Singh was presented in the Ludhiana court today, where he was found guilty and was ordered to spend next five years behind the bars. 

Along with this, Ruby Kapoor, 48-year-old son of Joginder Pal, was also sentenced to 5-year jail in the same case as it is believed that he was involved with Sukhwinder Singh. 

Reportedly, both accused were presented in front of the court to show leniency; however their plea was rejected by court and they were also imposed with a fine of 20 thousand rupees along with jail for five years. 

According to the preliminary information, Sukhwinder Singh has been charged under IPC 409, 420, 201, 120B, 13 (I) (d) and 13 (I) corruption. 

Ruby alias Ruby Kapoor’s lawyer has appealed the court to consider his case as he is having two sons who are studying and his 80-year-old mother is suffering with various diseases and is totally dependent on him for the medications. The lawyer also pointed out that he is the only breadwinner of the family therefore he requested for a lenient approach in the matter of punishment.
