IAS Krishan Kumar has been at the center of controversy amid Punjab Floods. It is being said that IAS Krishan Kumar is one of the most upright and honest officer in the administration.

It is also said that IAS Krishan Kumar has played a big role in improving the education in the state over the years. Why is Krishan Kumar facing heat?

Congress' MP from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa wrote a letter to PM Modi in which he writes-

"I request that an independent inquiry be instituted into the act and conduct of the Principal Secretary, Irrigation, Punjab cadre IAS officer Krishan Kumar (a Haryana domicile officer), who allegedly deliberately withheld the release of essential funds. This failure directly undermined our ability to maintain embankments and flood defenses, including on the Ravi, and has now become a matter of national security, as breaches in the river make it impossible for Indian Infantry or Armoured Vehicles to mobilise in case of an eventuality. This inquiry must be conducted on priority, independent of all else requested, so that responsibility is fixed and corrective action taken."

Aam Aadmi Party's Sanaur MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra on Sunday alleged that IAS Krishan Kumar 'misled' the state government on the release of water into rivers and permissions to de-silt riverbeds.

The AAP MLA alleged that despite repeated requests, “no action was taken” and officers “created hurdles” in ensuring pre-monsoon work.

Pathanmajra said Punjab Principal Secretary (Water Resources) Krishan Kumar “ignored repeated pleas of allowing the use of soil from the Tangri and the Ghaggar to strengthen banks”.

"The result is that almost 11 villages in my constituency are partly hit by flooding," he said, adding that the situation might turn worse if the rain-fed Tangri, a tributary of the Ghaggar, overflowed.
