New details have emerged in the murder case of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi which reveals that the plan to kill him was first made in January but could not be carried out at that time.
According to police investigation, the main shooter, Gurtaj Singh, along with gangster Joga’s aide Sajan Gill alias Gabbar, had reached near Lucky’s office after doing proper recce, however, they did not get a clear chance to attack at that time. The police further revealed that Joga had instructed them to act only when they were sure of success, as Lucky was known to carry a licensed weapon.
The revelations came after the arrest of two of Joga’s associates: Sajan Gill (Gabbar), a resident of Khambrada Colony, and Harpreet Lal alias Happy from village Foldriwal who were arrested near the DAV College flyover by CIA staff. Police recovered two pistols and two live cartridges from them.
DCP (Investigation) Manpreet Singh Dhillon sharing more details about the case tells that during questioning, Gabbar admitted that on January 12, he and his accomplices had fired shots at a sweets shop in Phagwara after the owner allegedly refused to pay extortion money. A case under the Arms Act has been registered and both accused are currently on police remand. Police records show that Happy has one criminal case against him, while Gabbar has three.
During interrogation, Gabbar revealed that he was asked to help hide shooter Gurtaj Singh after he allegedly murdered a man named Abdul Mohammed on December 16, 2025, and he was later brought to Jalandhar and kept in a rented room in the Khambrada area.
As per the investigation, it is revealed that the gang had initially planned to kill Lucky in January, but the plan failed because he would leave his office directly in his car, giving no chance to attack, following which the gang shifted focus to another target in Phagwara.
The plan to kill Lucky was later revived with the help of someone close to him, police sources reveal a dispute took place involving Lucky’s servant, Shingri, who then got in touch with Joga. Shingri reportedly shared key information about Lucky’s daily routine, including that he visited Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Model Town every day and remained unarmed during that time, later based on this information, the shooter returned to Jalandhar on February 5, and the murder was carried out.
Further investigation is currently ongoing in this murder case and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
