The Municipal Corporation Jalandhar has issued a final notice to the owner of Meriton Hotel, located on G.T. Road, Phagwara, Jalandhar, directing the hotel to vacate the building within three days from the date of the notice and according to the notice, the action is related to the building's occupancy after construction.
The Municipal Corporation stated that the hotel had obtained a building plan approval bearing No. 1235 dated December 6, 2017, however, the civic body has alleged that after completing the construction, the building was occupied without obtaining a Completion Plan Certificate from the Municipal Corporation, which is required before occupying the building.
The notice also states that the Municipal Corporation had already issued earlier communications to the hotel owner regarding the matter and these include letters dated February 9, 2026, and May 7, 2026, asking for a response or clarification.
According to the Municipal Corporation, no reply or clarification was submitted to the office in response to the earlier notices, following this, the civic body has now issued a final notice to the owner.
The notice directs the owner to vacate the hotel/building within three days from the date of issuance of the final notice and the Municipal Corporation has further warned that if the directions are not followed within the given time, action will be taken against the construction under Section 272(2) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation (PMC) Act, 1976.
As per the notice, the proposed action includes sealing the building if the hotel is not vacated within the specified period and the notice has been addressed to the owner of Meriton Hotel, Phagwara, G.T. Road, Jalandhar, and refers to the previously approved building plan and the subsequent notices issued by the Municipal Corporation.
