Model Town property dealer’s son accused of abducting woman in Jalandhar; Know what happened

Police say Model Town case resolved after woman’s statement; media reports called incomplete and misleading

A woman involved in a recent dispute near PPR Market in Jalandhar has released her first and final statement, saying that the matter has been settled and requesting the media not to reveal her identity and the case had recently attracted public attention after several claims circulated on social media and in some media reports regarding the incident and according to the woman's statement, the incident took place around 9:00 pm to 9:30 pm on the night before last, she said she had a dispute with the driver of a vehicle.

Mutual settlement reached

She further stated that on the following day, both parties reached a mutual settlement at Police Station Division No. 6. The settlement took place in the presence of the Station House Officer (SHO) and other respected individuals and in her statement, the woman said that the driver apologized for his mistake. She added that she is fully satisfied with the settlement and now considers the matter closed.

Victim issues statement

Incomplete reports published

The woman also clarified that she had not given any statement to any media organisation or journalist before issuing this official statement, according to her, several reports were published without speaking to her directly and were based on incomplete information and she appealed to all media organisations not to publish her name, photograph, or any information that could reveal her identity, she also requested everyone to respect her privacy.

Matter resolved: ACP

The woman further stated that this is her first and final statement regarding the incident and that she will not make any further comments on the matter meanwhile, ACP Manmohan Singh also spoke about the case and said that the police carried out their duty properly, according to the ACP, the matter has now been resolved through a mutual compromise after the woman herself agreed to the settlement.

Law took its course

The police have maintained that the case was handled according to the law and that the compromise was reached with the consent of both parties, earlier, various allegations related to the incident had circulated publicly however, the woman's latest statement does not mention those allegations, instead, it only states that there was a dispute with the vehicle driver, that the matter has now been settled, and that she is satisfied with the outcome and as of now, no fresh police action has been announced in the case following the compromise.

Women requests privacy

Since the woman has specifically requested that her identity should not be disclosed, media organisations are expected to follow legal and ethical guidelines regarding the privacy of victims and individuals involved in such incidents and with the woman's statement now on record and the police confirming that both sides have agreed to a settlement, the matter currently stands closed from the police's side unless any new complaint or legal development emerges in the future.
