Multiple courts of Punjab, and other states receive bomb threat via Email; premises evacuated

Threat emails were received on the official email IDs of District and Sessions Judges in Punjab and various other states.

In a concerning development, various courts in Punjab and other Indian states received bomb threat via an anonyms email. As per initial reports, list of states where courts have received threatening email are- Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

In Punjab, district courts in Ferozepur, Moga and Ropar have received bomb threat messages.

Moga SPD Manjit Singh while talking to the media said, "A threatening mail was received on the official email id of District and Session Court of Moga. So, we are following the standard drill that has been set in such type of cases. Checking is being conducted."

"Anti-Sabotage teams have initiated a thorough search. The email is now part of investigation. We are thoroughly conducting a checking after evacuating everyone from the court's premises. Anti-Sabotage team, Dog Squad team, all necessary teams as well as senior officers are on ground."

According to information received, after the threat emails were received on the official email IDs of District and Sessions Judges, court complexes were cleared of staff, lawyers and visitors. However, officials have so far refrained from disclosing details regarding the origin of the emails, the sender, or the exact content of the threat messages.

As an added safety measure, parking areas in and around court complexes were also cleared, and additional police personnel have been deployed at the sites.

Notably, this comes amid a series of similar threats in the state. Earlier, schools in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala had also received bomb threats, raising concerns among security agencies. Investigations are ongoing.
