As per a Hindustan Times Report, North West India has witnessed 23% excess rain in the monsoon that began June 1. The month of September will continue to witness rainfall as well, especially in these regions.
HT that quoted IMD suggest that several parts of north, west and central India will witness above normal rainfall till September 4.
There is likely to be above-normal rainfall over several parts of north, west and central India till September 4. India Meteorological Department’s extended range forecast (ERF) suggests that wet conditions are likely to continue till September 18.
It is pertinent to mention here that on July 31, IMD had predicted that that above normal rainfall in excess of 106% of the long period average is likely over the country during the second half of the southwest monsoon season (August and September).
At the time, IMD officials said rainfall in August would be normal, and September, above normal.
Notably, IMD's prediction of more rainfall is concerning as Punjab and many other states are already batting floods.
