Traffic affected after protesters sit on dharna at Mata Rani Chowk in Jalandhar’s Model House

The incident that triggered the protest took place on Monday in Bhargav Camp area of Jalandhar, where a dispute broke out between two groups.

Multiple areas of Jalandhar City on Tuesday witnessed traffic jam in the afternoon. Vehicles were able to move very slowly in Model House and adjoining areas such as Shri Guru Ravidas Chowk, etc.

The traffic movement in Jalandhar was impacted after a group of protestors sat on a dharna at Mata Rani Chowk in Jalandhar’s Model House area.

The protesters alleged that the police failed to take impartial action in a recent clash and acted in a one-sided manner. According to the agitators, the protest will continue until the police review their action and ensure a fair and just decision in the matter. Raising slogans against the authorities, the protesters demanded an unbiased investigation into the incident.

The row initially began as a verbal altercation soon escalated into stone-pelting from both sides. Several people sustained injuries in the clash. On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. However, locals allege that the subsequent police action was unfair.

The protesters have also leveled serious allegations of drug-related activities against Ajay Kumar and his brother. The other party, however, had dismissed these allegations as baseless. They maintain that if anyone has any evidence related to buying or selling drugs, they should present it.
