Will PM Modi still visit Jalandhar on February 1 amid bomb threats?

Multiple schools of Jalandhar received bomb threat email on January 31 morning i.e. a day before PM Modi's visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan.

The sender wrote that there will bomb blasts in three to four schools. It also warned Dera Sachkhand Ballan. The sender wrote that although it respects Guru Ravidass Ji, but Prime Minister Narendra 'Modi is an enemy of the Khalistanis'.

It further wrote that there is no dispute with the Dera head, Sant Niranjan Das Ji, but 'Modi is now the target'. The pro-Khalistan sender further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is responsible for the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and hence he is on their target.

According to reports, this is not the first time PM Modi has received threat ever since his Jalandhar visit has been announced.

A few days back, a series of threatening emails were sent to around 30 schools in Chandigarh, following which police and intelligence-security agencies were put on high alert.

According to the emails sent to the schools, the messages claimed that “Chandigarh is Khalistan.” The schools were threatened and asked to replace the national anthem Jana Gana Mana with Deh Shiva Var Mohe Ihe during school activities. The emails also mentioned targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The threat message specifically referred to the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Jalandhar on February 1.

Will PM Modi still visit Jalandhar amid Khalistan threat?

The answer is yes. Centre's official release has been published and it confirms that PM Modi will visit Punjab on February 1.

As per PIB, at around 3:45 PM, Prime Minister will visit Adampur airport where he will unveil the new name of the Airport as ‘Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur. He will also inaugurate the Terminal Building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana, Punjab.

Notably, to ensure PM Modi's visit to Jalandhar remains smooth, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav along with other senior officers visited Dera Sachkhand Ballan to do security review.

Sharing a series of photos while doing security review, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav wrote, "Ahead of the Hon'ble Prime Minister visit to Jalandhar, reviewed the security arrangements today. Senior officers have been briefed to ensure tight vigil, route sanitization, and crowd management at Dera Sachkhand Ballan."

Apart from Punjab DGP, other senior officers that visited thespot for security review included Punjab Police Intelligence Chief Sukhchain Singh Gill and DIG Jalandhar Naveen Singla.
