The Indian Meteorological Department has given a weather warning for Punjab and other parts of the Country, which goes into the following days. Rain, coupled with thunderstorms and strong winds, is likely over north-western parts of the Country due to a new western disbursement likely to become active over north-west India starting from the evening of the 3rd of November.
Expected outcome in the state of Punjab
IMD has also said that the new weather pattern will be northeast Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Hoshiarpur and then in the Central Punjab towns and Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Patiala. The Punjab farmers are asked to be vigilant during the wet period and to cancel any irrigation and pesticide spraying.
Local meteorologists said that the rain may temporarily bring a respite in improving the air quality after the recent pollution worries due to Diwali and the incidents of stubble burning. However, subsequent humidity and fog formation in the latter part of the week are also possible once rainfall subsides.
A temperature drop is likely to be witnessed in Punjab starting from November 5 to November 12, 2025, indicating winter-like conditions. During this period, the state is expected to witness December like chill. The temperature will steadily decline from the first week of November. For example, in Jalandhar, it was expected that the minimum temperature was very likely to dip as low as 6° C by November 12, while the maximum during the day may be around 24-29°C in the initial days and gradually get cooler.
Besides, there is a possibility of light rainfall and thunderstorms lashing several districts on one or two days during this period, especially from November 4 onwards, with Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Mohali predicted to bear the worst of it.
Rain and subsequent thunderstorm during this period are expected to drop temperature and clean the atmosphere, thereby improving the AQI in the region. The meteorologists link this sharp drop in temperature with an active Western Disturbance. It is expected to bring about rainfall and snowfall in the hilly areas around, thus causing cold winds to blow in Punjab.
For now, the night temperatures across Punjab have already shown a downward trend, which will only exacerbate the winter conditions. While day temperatures are likely to gradually drop from highs of around 31 degrees at the beginning of November to about 23 degrees by November 11-12, the night temperatures will dip from mid-teens to single digits in some areas.
The forecasted weather thus indicates that the occupants of Punjab should expect colder mornings and evenings from the first week of November, lasting for a week into the month. From November 5-12, the weather forecast for Punjab stands at mostly clear to partly cloudy skies; there is no probability of heavy rainfall, but the temperatures will fall significantly to give the onset of full winter.
The expected rain and thunderstorms in the beginning of the week are going to be the major triggers of the temperature dip and set the tone for the cold days ahead. This forecast, therefore, calls upon the occupants to take necessary measures to keep themselves warm as they witness the drastic transition in weather across the region. Weather warning for Punjab residents Farmers have been advised to monitor the weather as the storms get closer and secure any crop that has so far been harvested, pending the passage of rains.
