The highly anticipated Tesla Diner, the newest Elon Musk creation merging mid-century retro chic with state-of-the-art technology, opened its doors this week in West Hollywood. At 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard, the Tesla Diner is already attracting visitors for its singular combination of 1950s Americana, space-age pizzazz, and a bespoke experience for Tesla owners and the general public alike.
Elon Musk initially teased the concept in 2018: a retro "Grease-meets-The-Jetsons" paradise where car culture and comfort food merge. Seven years on, it's now a reality that includes a two-story building with 80 Supercharger stations, two giant 45-foot LED movie screens, and an army of roller-skating servers who zip classic food to tables and cars.Tesla cars can stream movie sound directly to their speakers, allowing customers to watch film clips and shorts optimized for the average 30-minute charging period.
Food, burgers, fries, hot dogs, chicken wings, and hand-spun milkshakes, is presented in trays shaped like the legendary Tesla Cybertruck. Most importantly, anyone, not only Tesla owners, are free to drop by the diner to taste the offerings and be amazed at the spectacle.
Adding to the futuristic ambiance, Tesla’s humanoid robot “Optimus” was spotted serving popcorn during the opening festivities. Inside, neon accents and expansive indoor-outdoor seating capture the vibe of a classic American drive-in updated for the digital age. The diner is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making it a round-the-clock destination for tech fans and foodies alike.
Tesla customers can order through their in-car screen, have meals brought to their car, and listen to synchronized audio and film from the comfort of their seats.
Non-Tesla customers can eat in or out, taking in the scene and watching people go by in a hum of innovation.
The venue's two-story configuration and rooftop patio guarantee city vistas and plenty of selfie opportunities.
On its first day of operation, lines wrapped around the building with fans running to be one of the first to try Musk's new creation—some waiting for 13 hours. It was followed by a soft opening for LA's first responders and Tesla Club Southern California members.
Elon Musk has suggested more Tesla Diners are in the works, with expansion plans in big cities and along Supercharger corridors globally, if this Hollywood experiment works out.
Musk himself called the location "one of the coolest spots in LA," and initial crowds and social media chatter indicate his retro-futuristic dream might be plugging in a new era for casual dining, entertainment, and EV culture.
