Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has sought temporary parole to attend the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, scheduled from December 1 to 19. He is currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA).

A petition was filed on his behalf in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, requesting an urgent hearing on his plea for parole. The matter has now come up before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu.

During the proceedings, the bench asked how Amritpal Singh could take part in the session unless his NSA detention was stayed. His lawyer argued that the request was made under Section 15 of the NSA, which allows parole in special situations, and that attending Parliament falls under such circumstances.

The petition notes that Amritpal Singh won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Khadoor Sahib by a margin of nearly four lakh votes, even while in jail. It states that he represents around 19 lakh voters who deserve to have their elected MP present in Parliament.

Filed through advocate Iman Singh Khara, the plea asks the Central and Punjab governments to release him on temporary parole or at least allow his personal attendance in the House.

The petition also points out that a third detention order was issued against him on April 17, 2024, which was later upheld by the Advisory Board. His detention was extended again on June 24. Amritpal Singh had applied for parole on November 13, but authorities have yet to take a decision.
