Vote counting for the 2026 Assembly elections is underway across Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal and current trends are showing major political movement though it is important to note that final results are yet to be declared.
In Tamil Nadu actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the frontrunner in its very first election and the party is leading on a large number of seats crossing the majority mark in trends which signals a major shift in the state’s politics which has long been dominated by DMK and AIADMK while DMK and AIADMK are trailing behind TVK but continue to hold significant leads in several constituencies.
In Kerala the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) appears to be ahead overall while some leaders from other parties are leading in individual seats the broader trend suggests UDF has the upper hand and BJP continues to remain in third position in the state.
In Assam the BJP is clearly ahead and looks set to return to power and the party is leading in a majority of seats with the Congress trailing behind and allies like AGP and BOPF are also contributing to the NDA’s overall strength.
In Puducherry the contest remains mixed but the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) is currently ahead with the highest number of seats won so far and other parties including BJP, DMK and TVK are also in the race with a few seats each.
In West Bengal early trends show the BJP taking a strong lead and moving past the majority mark while Trinamool Congress (TMC) is behind but still holding a significant number of seats and if trends continue the BJP could form the government in the state for the first time.
