TikTok, Shein and other Chinese Apps' ban in India

On Friday evening it was reported that the website of Chinese short video sharing platform TikTok has been unblocked in India after 5 years. Along with this, the web page of online shopping sites AliExpress and Shein are also opening. In the year 2020, they were banned due to tension in relations between India and China.

Users are currently able to access only the home page of the website of these platforms on mobile and laptop. At the same time, the app of TikTok and AliExpress is still not available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. That is, the apps are still blocked. At the same time, Shein's app can be installed.

Following this a massive controversy erupted on social media. The opposition parties slammed the BJP and called the Modi Government's stance similar to agreeing for ceasefire with Pakistan.

The answer is no for the time being. A news agency quoted a source in Government of India who informed that Centre has not issued any unblocking order for TikTok. "Government of India has not issued any unblocking order for TikTok. Any such statement/news is false and misleading," said the Government source quoted by a news agency.

However, no official statement has come from the Electronics and IT Ministry.
