First snowfall of the season blankets Shimla and Manali, know which roads remain closed

The weather in North India has taken a turn due to western disturbance. Rain showers have been pouring since last night in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Strong winds have also been reported along with the rain showers in the regions. The sudden change in the weather pattern has caused a significant shift in the climate and a noticeable drop can be felt in the temperature.

Meanwhile, spell of rain and snowfall has also begun in the Himalayan region. As per reports, Shimla and Manali in Himachal Pradesh have received their first major snowfall of the season which has finally ended the dry spell that lasted for about three and a half months.

Know which roads will remain effected 

Snowfall in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir persist and due to this flight operations were temporarily suspended in Srinagar on Friday. As per the information, the Srinagar-Jammu highway is also closed currently. Reports suggest that traffic has been stopped near the Navyug Tunnel. Along with this, Mughal Road, Sinthan pass, SSG roads are also reportedly closed. As of now, the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has also been suspended due to snowfall, the schools in the hilly districts also remain shut.

Western Disturbance to activate again

As per the Meteorological Department, another strong Western Disturbance will become active on January 26. This Western Disturbance is expected to bring rain to nine states of North Indian and snowfall to the hilly regions.

What is Western Disturbance?

A Western Disturbance is a systematic cluster of winds and clouds that originate in the west. Its activation leads to snowfall in mountainous areas and rain in the plains. During this the temperature is expected to drop and frost conditions and cold waves are also likely do develop.
