One of the popular Bollywood singer-rappers, Badshah, has landed himself in trouble due to the recent controversy over the removal of his latest song, "Tateeree," from the popular video-sharing website YouTube in India due to objections from social organisations and legal issues. The song, which was released on March 1, 2026, had already received more than 50 million views within a week of its release, becoming a viral hit before the video was removed from the website for Indian users.
According to reports, the song was removed from the website following the lodging of a complaint with the government over the lyrics and the visuals of the song. After the controversy surrounding the song started gaining momentum, the video was removed from the website for Indian users. The comments section of the video uploaded from the official account of the singer has also been disabled, and the description section does not contain any information about the song.
After the song was released, there have been a number of objections from various social organisations over the lyrics and the scenes depicted in the song's video.
However, the major criticism was leveled against the Haryana State Commission for Women, who felt that the song was objectifying women and also promoted the use of inappropriate imagery for school-going girls.
One such scene in the song features girls in school uniforms throwing their school bags while standing on a bus, with the lyrics played in the background. Such imagery, the critics felt, was sending out the wrong message to society and compromising the dignity of women and school-going girls.
Taking cognizance of the issue, the chairperson of the commission, Renu Bhatia, called the lyrics of the song "uncivilised" and also felt that the lyrics were compromising the dignity of women. The commission has also issued a summons to Badshah to appear before the commission on the 13th of March to explain the lyrics of the song.
Apart from the summons, FIRs have also been lodged against unknown individuals at the Panchkula Crime Branch and a police station in Jind district.
There have also been allegations regarding the filming locations that were used for this video. Allegedly, some scenes were filmed in a government school located in Sachcha Kheda village, which is close to Narwana, as well as inside a Jind Roadways bus without proper permission from administrative officials.
The allegations surrounding these charges have further intensified the controversy, with officials claiming that the production house might have breached administrative guidelines while filming this video.
Before it was banned, the song had started to gain popularity across different digital media platforms. In fact, within days of its upload, it had garnered more than 50 million views on YouTube, which had gone viral across other platforms like Instagram and Facebook, with users sharing different sections of the music video.
The song also features Kaithal-based boxer and singer Simran Jaglan, who is also the daughter of Haryanvi singer Karambir Fauji. The song had been shared on Badshah's official YouTube account as well as on the Karambir Fauji Official account.
It may be mentioned that the controversy surrounding the song surfaced just before a promotional show was scheduled to take place. A live show featuring Badshah and Simran Jaglan was scheduled to take place in Mumbai on March 14. However, it is still not clear whether the show will actually happen or not.
It may be mentioned that the music video was shot at various locations, including Jind, Narwana, Sachcha Kheda village in Haryana, and Dubai. The singer also visited Kaithal and Sonipat in February to promote his song.
Apart from legal action, Khap Panchayats and social organizations are also demanding a complete ban on the song, saying that it is against Haryanvi culture and also portrays women in an objectionable manner.
It may be mentioned that after receiving complaints from various social organizations, YouTube finally blocked the song, meaning that the song cannot be officially watched in India. However, it may still be watched from outside India.
