

March 8 is likely to hold special significance for women in Punjab this time around, as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led state government is set to table its Budget on this day, coinciding with International Women’s Day. It is being speculated that this was a well calculated move, as the party is expected to fulfill its long due promise of giving Rs 1,000 monthly stipend to each women in the state.
While International Women’s Day is going to be observed all around the globe, this time it is likely to hold special significance in Punjab for the above-mentioned reason.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced that the budget will be presented on March 8 during the ongoing Budget Session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha that began today and is set to continue till March 16.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had made a pre-poll promise to the women of Punjab to provide Rs 1,000 per month to every women in the state. A while ago, during addressing a state-level Maghi Mela gathering in Sri Muktsar Sahib, the CM asserted that the government will fulfil all the promises that have been made. The CM had assured that the provisions required to fulfill the Rs 1,000 promise will be made in the upcoming budget.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema described the upcoming Budget as a “historic” one. While talking about the same he also highlights that the state has seen a notable growth in revenue collections over the past four years.
With the upcoming budget set to be presented on March 8, on International Women’s Day the date has gained an added political weightage in the state with the people of Punjab especially women early anticipating that the promise made to them would finally be fulfilled.
