A fresh political face-off has erupted in Punjab after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal traded sharp attacks following PM Modi’s rally in Jalandhar on Friday.

During his address, PM Modi launched a strong attack on the AAP-led Punjab government, referring to it as a “Kattar Beimaan Party” and accusing it of poor governance and financial mismanagement. He alleged that despite the Centre providing significant financial support to Punjab over the past 12 years, the state government had failed to effectively utilise the funds for development.

The Prime Minister also criticised the state’s financial situation, claiming that a large part of Punjab’s budget was being spent on repaying debt instead of improving infrastructure and public welfare.

Soon after PM Modi’s remarks, Arvind Kejriwal responded through a post on X, targeting the Prime Minister over the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in donations linked to the Ram Temple.

Taking a direct swipe at Modi, Kejriwal alleged that the issue of temple donations raised questions about the BJP’s claims of honesty. His remarks came as part of AAP’s continued criticism over the matter.

The exchange has added further heat to the BJP-AAP political battle in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. While PM Modi used his Jalandhar rally to target the AAP government over corruption, governance and development issues, Kejriwal attempted to turn the focus towards the Ram Temple donation controversy.

The war of words between the two parties highlights the growing political rivalry in Punjab, where both BJP and AAP are preparing for an intense electoral contest in the coming years.
