In a significant political development, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post with immediate effect. Citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice, Dhankhar tendered his resignation to the President of India in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
In his resignation letter dated July 21, Dhankhar stated that he was stepping down to prioritise his healthcare on the advice of medical professionals. The resignation brings an early end to his tenure as the 14th Vice President of India, a position he held since August 2022.
Expressing gratitude to the Hon’ble President of India, Dhankhar acknowledged her unwavering support and described their working relationship as “soothing” and “wonderful.” He noted that it had been a privilege to work under her leadership during his time in office.
Dhankhar also extended his appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, stating that their cooperation and support had been invaluable. He reflected on the learning and growth he experienced through their guidance during his time in the constitutional office.
The former Vice President further conveyed his heartfelt thanks to all Members of Parliament, expressing that the warmth, trust, and affection he received from them would remain etched in his memory. He described his tenure as enriching, filled with invaluable experiences and insights into the workings of India’s vibrant democracy.
Highlighting India’s transformative journey in recent years, Dhankhar said it had been a matter of great satisfaction and honour to witness and participate in the country’s remarkable economic progress and global rise. He described the current era as a defining phase in India’s history and expressed pride in having contributed to it in his constitutional capacity.
In his concluding remarks, Jagdeep Dhankhar said he was stepping down with a sense of pride in India’s phenomenal achievements and expressed unwavering confidence in the nation’s brilliant future.
