

According to election affidavits analysed by “My Neta Ji” 87 of Punjab’s 117 MLAs elected in the 2022 Assembly elections declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore and the data shows that the richest MLA elected in 2022 Punjab Assembly election was Kulwant Singh of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from te S.A.S. Nagar constituency and in his election affidavit Kulwant Singh declared total assets worth over Rs 238.53 crore and he also declared liabilities of more than Rs 13.83 crore.
The second richest MLA elected in 2022 was Rana Gurjeet Singh of Congress from Kapurthala and he declared assets worth over Rs 125.64 crore and liabilities exceeding Rs 71.75 crore while AAP leader Aman Arora from Sunam had declared assets worth more than Rs 95.12 crore and liabilities of over Rs 22.88 crore with this several other MLAs also reported substantial assets and these included Sukhpal Singh Khaira of Congress from Bholath with assets worth over Rs 50.32 crore, Inderbir Singh Nijjar of AAP from Amritsar South with assets exceeding Rs 36 crore, and Naresh Puri of Congress from Sujanpur with assets of more than Rs 35.83 crore.
The data further shows that 74% of the winning candidates in 2022 Assembly election were crorepatis and out of 117 winners 87 declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore however the list of Punjab’s richest MLAs changed after subsequent by elections.
The biggest change came in the Ludhiana West by-election held on June 19, 2025 where AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora won the seat and entered Punjab Assembly and according to his election affidavit Arora declared total assets worth more than Rs 308.30 crore and he also declared liabilities of over Rs 24.07 crore.
With assets exceeding Rs 308 crore Sanjeev Arora became the richest MLA in Punjab Assembly surpassing Kulwant Singh’s declared assets of Rs 238.53 crore.
The Ludhiana West by-election was held following the death of sitting AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi and the constituency went to polls on June 19, 2025 and Sanjeev Arora emerged victorious. His entry into the Assembly not only strengthened AAP’s presence in the constituency but also placed him at top of the list of Punjab’s wealthiest legislators based on declared assets.
Other MLAs elected through by-elections also declared significant assets where Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon elected from Gidderbaha in 2024 by-election declared assets worth over Rs 13.17 crore while Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhillon who won the Barnala by-election in 2024 declared assets worth more than Rs 10.31 crore.
Based on the latest available election affidavits Sanjeev Arora currently stands as Punjab’s richest MLA with declared assets of more than Rs 308 crore while Kulwant Singh remains richest MLA elected in 2022 Punjab Assembly election with assets exceeding Rs 238 crore.
