In Jalandhar's Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, the wife of a businessman committed suicide by hanging herself. In an interview with the deceased's mother Rani, said that she married off her daughter to a man named Loveleen Chhabra 17 years ago.
"Just within a few days after marriage, he (Loveleen Chhabra, husband) started physically assaulting her (Priya Chhabra the deceased) and she used to stay sad all the time. Many times, She came back to us along with her two children. But, her husband took her back with him every time by apologizing and promising not to do it again," said Priya's mother.

In an interview with the son of the deceased, he told media that his father used to assault his mother physically and used abusive language against her which made his mother take the harsh step of committing suicide. Priya's son further added that his mother had tried to commit suicide many times earlier, but, he successfully prevented her from doing so.
The mother of the demised also alleged that this may be a case of murder instead of suicide. The police is investigating the case. They have recorded the statements of Priya's mother and son.
