After the news of the death of a 24-yr-old man who lost his life at PIMS Hospital, created waves across the state, Angad Datta Youth Congress president has filed a complaint to the Chief Minister’s office against the same.

In his complaint, Datta demanded for a legal action against the hospital authorities for the alleged negligence in the treatment and misbehaving with the patient’s kin.

Datta said that, “He received a phone call from Mrs. Kamaljit Kaur,  mother of Gursewak Singh who was suffering from covid-19 & later succumbed to death. According to her, he allegedly died due to negligent conduct of PIMS Hospital where another patient named Radha Rani who also lost her battle to covid-19 a few days back solely due to the negligence of the hospital’s staff.

After Gursewak was referred from Nawanshahr his mother got him admitted in PIMS hospital, where he was tested positive for the virus. After that he started complaining about being mistreated in the hospital. His health started deteriorating & while texting his mother on WhatsApp he wrote that he was not being provided with oxygen there. He had also sent his video to his mother where he clearly states that “mai mar jaana” and he was also seen struggling to breathe. When his mother tried to ask Doctor Sharma about the same, he allegedly misbehaved with her and went to the extent of saying “mai tere thapad marna” that “I will slap you and there is nothing wrong with the treatment.” Ultimately her son who was repeatedly wailing that I am going to die, succumbed to death early morning on the same day.

“Being a mother Kamaljit Kaur was concerned about her son’s health and she did not deserve this kind of behavior from the doctor.” , said Datta. “Threatening a mother who is scurrying in the hospital for saving her son’s life is unacceptable and against the ethics of medical profession”, he added.

Datta further said that, “Dr. Sharma’s unethical behavior is clearly seen as a violative code of medical ethics which a doctors commits to abide by. Doctor-patient relationship is based on mutual trust and respect. Hence this kind of behaviour should be condemned”.

Complaints regarding misbehaviour had also been filed against Dr. Sharma in the past, who believes that slapping a patient’s mother is in his authority.

Datta while requesting to the authorities, demanded immediate attention to the matter & said that, “The wrongdoers must be brought to the book according to the law as soon as possible.”
