
Jalandhar, February 7- In order to sustain open defecation(ODF) status of the district and ensure proper management of solid and liquidwaste, the administration is set to build 28 community sanitary Complexes atthe cost of Rs 87 lakh in various villages.
These Community Sanitary Complexes will not only open roundthe clock but would also ensure all sections of the village have access to asafe sanitary facilities at any time.
These complexes are being constructed in those villageswhere people have not sufficient space for the toilets in the homes.
Nangal Salempur village sarpanch Harbhajan Kaur said thatthe work on the complex in her village will begin in this week as allformalities have been completed including funds, earmarking of land andothers.
She said that only two families belonging to poor sectionhave not adequate space for toilets inside their houses.
Mangal Singh, sarpanch of the Sangal Sohal village saidthat these complexes would also be accessible to all people in the villageand can also be used by passersby and participants of public gatherings,thereby ensuring open defecation in the village.
He said that the construction work has begun in the villageand would be over by March end.
Singh thanked the Punjab Government for setting up thecomplex in the village.
BDPO East Mahesh Kumar said he has been personallymonitoring the construction of these complexes in seven villages so that thesecan be built soon. He said that water supply and sanitation department isexecutive agency of these projects.
Divulging more, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thorisaid these complexes are being built in the villages including Jalasingh,Khusropur, Jamsher, Bambianwal, Muhadipur, Bolina,Chachowal, Wadala/Raipur,Chitti/Johal, Manko, Litera Kalan, Ismialpur, Samrai, Jethpur, Chhota Bara Pind,Desalpur, Bal, Bhikha Nangal, Mallian, Salempur Masanda, Qasimpur, Rurka Kalan,Dhani Pind and Mander under Har Ghar Pani Har Ghar Safai Mission.
He said that the directions have been issued to theofficials for the timely completion of the complexes to ensure hygiene andhealthy sanitary facilities to the people.
