30-year-old man dies after setting himself on fire at girlfriend's doorstep in Jalandhar

A 30-year-old man died after self-immolation at the doorstep of his girlfriend's house in Geeta Colony in Bharo Camp area of Jalandhar, on Wednesday midnight, police said.

The deceased Deepak Kumar, was the resident of Kashi Nagar locality of the same area. 

As per information, Deepak took this extreme step on Wednesday midnight, however the imcident came to light on Thursday morning when the deceased succumbed to his injuries at a government hospital here and following which the mother of Deepak registered a case under section 306 of the IPC (Abetment of Suicide) against the 27-year-old woman and her family members.

Meanwhile, Deepak used to work as an electrician and if reports are to be believed he was in love with the woman in question. 

As per Bhagwant Singh, SHO, Bhargo Camp, Deepak and the woman in question were allegedly in a relationship and wanted to get marry. They knew each year for quite few years, however their family members were against their marriage.

"While, the deceased also shot a video of the whole incident and blamed the family members of the woman for forcing him to take such an extreme step, the woman's family claimed that Deepak himself brought petrol to their house, sprinkled it on his body and set himself on fire with a matchstick", added the SHO.

With 60 per cent burn injuries, Deepak was rushed to the district Civil Hospital, where he failed to response to the treatment and died today.

Before setting himself on fire, Deepak, tried to convince the woman's family, however, he was intimidated by her father and brothers. Subsequently, he poured fuel and burnt himself. 

On the basis of the video Deepak recorded and his mother's statement a case has been registered against the woman's father and other family members.
