A30-year-old man died after self-immolation at the doorstep of his girlfriend'shouse in Geeta Colony in Bharo Camp area of Jalandhar, on Wednesday midnight,police said.
The deceasedDeepak Kumar, was the resident of Kashi Nagar locality of the same area.
As perinformation, Deepak took this extreme step on Wednesday midnight, however theimcident came to light on Thursday morning when the deceased succumbed to hisinjuries at a government hospital here and following which the mother of Deepakregistered a case under section 306 of the IPC (Abetment of Suicide)against the 27-year-old woman and her family members.
Meanwhile,Deepak used to work as an electrician and if reports are to be believed hewas in love with the woman in question.
As per BhagwantSingh, SHO, Bhargo Camp, Deepak and the woman in question were allegedly in arelationship and wanted to get marry. They knew each year for quite few years,however their family members were against their marriage.
"While, thedeceased also shot a video of the whole incident and blamed the family membersof the woman for forcing him to take such an extreme step, the woman's familyclaimed that Deepak himself brought petrol to their house, sprinkled it on hisbody and set himself on fire with a matchstick", added the SHO.
With 60 per centburn injuries, Deepak was rushed to the district Civil Hospital, where hefailed to response to the treatment and died today.
Before settinghimself on fire, Deepak, tried to convince the woman's family, however, he wasintimidated by her father and brothers. Subsequently, he poured fuel and burnthimself.
On the basis ofthe video Deepak recorded and his mother's statement a case has been registeredagainst the woman's father and other family members.
