The nation is battling against the second disastrous wave of coronavirus which has now claimed more lives than the first wave. The news of Covid-19 overwhelming cases, deaths, and the collapse of health infrastructure is all over the world and now another thing has made to this horrific list.

A day after, Bihar’s Buxar district reported the terrific incident of corpses floating in the river Ganga, now Uttar Pradesh reports a similar case.

On Tuesday, May 11, more dead bodies of Covid suspected patients were found floating in the river under a bridge near the border between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

It may be noted here that on May 10, Bihar officials claimed that there were over 70 bodies that had washed up on the Ganga banks at Buxar. Following the incident, a blame game erupted between the administration of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

However, the visuals that went viral today revealed another dark side of the health care system as the ambulance drivers were witnessed throwing the corpses of Covid-19 patients over a bridge.

According to the BJP MP Janardhan Singh Sigriwal, the bodies of Covid victims were thrown by the ambulance drivers on the bridge—Jaiprabha Setu, located in Saran, Bihar which is close to the Ballia in UP.

Later, the BJP leader asked the district administration to take cognizance of the situation and to make sure that no more bodies of Covid victims to be dumped there.

On the flip side, localites claim that both states and their administrations are responsible for such insensitive behavior towards Covid victims and their families. According to Arvind Singh, “Bodies are thrown over by ambulance drivers from both UP and Bihar.”

Apparently, the officials of both states dismissed the reports and said the bodies were thrown into the river by the people themselves after they did not find a place to cremate or bury the bodies. Moreover, they found the firewood for the cremation expensive.

In a press statement, the officials asserted, “There is enough firewood at the cremation grounds and six to eight bodies have been burnt each day on average.”

Also, the district administration has directed to be vigilant over such incidents in the future and have been asked to make sure that localites are cremating the bodies rather than dumping them in the river.
