In the last 24 hours, the world and India in particular have seen a general shift to positive in the trends of the deadly virus that has not only been plaguing the ones infected but also others by taking away their livelihood and forcing almost everyone within the four walls of their homes. In addition, progress has been made in the vaccine.

There were 2,75,891 new cases of the virus in the world. In a surprising turn of events, the island country of Sri Lanka reported no new cases at all while Canada fears reinstatement of the lockdown due to worsening conditions. India had 70,589 new cases and 11,42,811 tests were conducted.

State-wise, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Andhra Pradesh were the most positive states with a sharp decrease in the number of active cases. However, these states were contrasted by Assam, Chhattisgarh, and Kerala which saw an increase in the similar proportion.

A total of 776 people died due to the virus in the last 24 hours. Also, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare lauded the decision to enforce nationwide lockdown on March 25, 2020 with a steady increase in recovery rate of COVID-19 patients with the current recovery rate coming at about 83%.

No one is immune to the Corona Virus and many public figures all over the world with some succumbing and others recovering. Chief legal adviser of Bangladesh recently died.  Also, it is likely that the “new normal” of COVID-19 may be causing stress and mental discomfort. The authorities all over reiterate that this is okay and have been providing guidelines not only for adults but also children. Also, valve masks have been declared unsafe for protection from COVID-19 and surgical masks are approved.

Vaccine testing in the later phases and success are on the horizon with some institutions completing their trials, while others receiving government approvals, and a few of the medicines showing newly-gained immunity after a single dose of the medicine.

In China, five candidates of a vaccine are being worked on with more than a hundred thousand people being inoculated. A Russian vaccine has created immunity and only a second booster shot may be required. The Indian government initiative has found success and no side-effects have occurred, with the government indicating the first batch of the vaccine to be available by early 2021.

In addition, Ayurvedic medicine is also being developed and tested. However, there are eyebrows being raised as to preferential allocation of the vaccine with profit-motive or electoral favours influencing the same.

This global war against the deadly virus is not someone else’s concern alone. All individuals are together in this, whatever their role might be.
