According to the reports of a national British daily broadsheet newspaper, Fugitive businessman Nirav Modi, who is wanted in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank fraud in India is currently living in his luxurious apartment situated in London West End. The reports have also said that he is still into diamond business.

On Saturday, the UK-based newspaper released a video which shows the ‘Fugitive’ porting a jacket made from “Ostrich hide” which apparently costs as much as “£10,000” (over Rs 9 lakh). In the video, the businessman can be seen answering “no comment” to every question asked by the reporter.

The reports has stated that Modi is living in a “three-bedroom flat occupying half of a floor of the landmark Centre Point tower block, with views across London likely to be rented at around £17,000 (Rs 15 lakh).”

The Newspaper, while citing highly placed sources in the UK Government said that Modi has been provided with ‘National Insurance Number’ by the Department for Work and Pension which apparently allows him to operate his online bank accounts in the country while still being on the ‘Most Wanted List’ in India. However, when the reporter interrogated Modi regarding the same, the only reply that came was: “No comment”.

Nirav Modi and his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi are under scrutiny after the PNB reported that it had been cheated of Rs 13,600 crore through fraudulent issue of LoUs and foreign letters of credit. Both the offenders fled India in January 2018 and are absconding since then. While Modi is in the UK, Choksi has become a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda and is believed to be residing there.
