High magnitude earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi, Punjab,and Chandigarh and nearby areas around 10:35 pm forcing people to immediatelystep out of their homes.
The magnitude of earthquake is reported to be 6.1 on theRitcher Scale as per National Centre for Seismology.
According to the National Centre for Seismology of theMinistry of Earth Sciences, the earthquake had its epicentre in Amritsardistrict and struck at 10:34 pm.
No casualties or damage to properties have been reportedso far in Amritsar or other parts of Punjab.
"Top officials of Punjab Police and local administration are keeping a close watch on the situation", said Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh.
