Technology Smart-Phone Phone

Jai Mani unveiled the Poco F1 in 2018 But as the company later revealed, there will only be another addition to the F-series, when the market is ready for disruption and Poco India has skipped the Poco F2 altogether and launched the Poco F3 GT. It’s a rebranded version of the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, but that doesn’t take away any bit of the thrill the smartphone promises. It’s a gaming phone under Rs 30,000, featuring all the bells and whistles including gaming triggers and RGB lights. We got our hands on the newly launched smartphone, and here are our initial thoughts on the device

Poco F3 GT price in India has been set at Rs Rs 26,999 for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, Rs 28,999 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, while the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant of the phone will cost Rs 30,999. This is definitely more than what you would pay for any other Poco phone in the country but, impressive for what’s on offer. It also gives OnePlus Nord 2 a genuine competitor.

The highlights of the phone start right at the body. The phone has an aluminium frame and glass body design that features a pattern on the back with landscape-oriented Poco branding, that adds to the gamer-vibe of the device.

The Poco F3 GT runs MIUI 12.5 is based on Android 11 and packs 128GB of inbuilt storage. The Poco F3 GT is a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) mobile that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards.

Connectivity options on the Poco F3 GT include Wi-Fi 802.11 a, GPS, Bluetooth v5.10, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.

The POCO F3 GT features a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a hole-punch cutout. Poco claims it’s a 10-bit panel with 120Hz refresh rate. The display also comes with HDR10+ certification. It has Widevine L1 certification, so you stream HD content on streaming apps. There’s HDR support on Netflix already.

The display quality on POCO F3 GT is quite impressive, the colours are punchy, viewing angles are good and the brightness levels are good enough for outdoor use. You also get stereo speakers and three mics for better noise isolation. And while there’s no headphone jack, you get the type C to 3.5mm connector inside the box.

Two features that truly stand out from the performance point of view are the dual stereo speakers and the shoulder buttons. The speakers on Poco F3 GT are genuinely loud and clear. It should excite gamers as well as users who stream content on their phones. The shoulder buttons, as I mentioned earlier, have a great response rate. They can be mapped from Game Space and used within the game to gain advantage over other players.

The Poco F1 became a cult among smartphone enthusiasts and made the smartphone maker an instant hit in India. The Poco F3 GT has the potential to start a new chapter for Poco which may see it compete with OnePlus more aggressively than before. While it has been promoted as a gaming smartphone, the Poco F3 GT is a lot more than that.

The smartphone offers a lot of impressive features, has been priced brilliantly, emerges as a capable competitor for the OnePlus Nord 2 and was definitely worth the hype.
