On Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party got a clear majority in Punjab. It won 92 seats out of 117 total seats which is 72 more than what they got in previous Punjab election in 2017. Congress on the other hand just got 18 seats, While as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) only got 3 seats. Bhagwant Mann is set to become the new Chief Minister of the state.

Bhagwant Mann won his Dhuri Assembly seat by a Margin of 58,000 votes Mann thanked the people of Punjab and said his party will work together to bring the star back on development tract.

Meanwhile many Political veterans like Congress Punjab chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, former CM Amrinder Singh, Prakash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal tasted defeat.

With the power tussle, that was going on between Congress Punjab chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and Congress Chief Ministerial candidate Charanjit Singh Channi, it was eminent that Congress would have a downfall in Punjab. But what’s surprised everyone is that majority AAP have got. In Doaba AAP won 10 seats out of 23, In Majha it won 17 seats out of 25, while as in Malwa it has won 65 out of 67 seats.

This performance by AAP is going to create ripples that could lead to realignments at the national level too. Political observers see this performance as an endorsement of Arvind Kejriwal as a prospective national leader against Prime Minister Modi.
