Counting of votes for Ludhiana West Byelection commenced on Monday. Ludhiana West is among the most high-profile constituencies that underwent polls on June 19. The bypoll was necessitated after AAP Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died of a “self-inflicted bullet injury” earlier this year. With the counting of votes going on, trend of results have started to come out on Election Commission of India's official website.
In the ongoing counting for the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sanjeev Arora has taken a decisive lead. After the completion of five rounds of counting, Arora has secured 12,320 votes, establishing a lead of 2504 votes over his closest rival, Bharat Bhushan Ashu of the Congress.
The voting trends so far indicate a significant swing in AAP’s favor, as their candidate continues to widen the gap.
Current Tally (After Round 5):
- Sanjeev Arora (AAP): 12,320
- Bharat Bhushan Ashu (INC): 9816
- Jiwan Gupta (BJP): 8831
- Adv. Parupkar Singh Ghuman (SAD): 2959
Candidates from smaller parties and independents, including those from NLSP and SAD(M), have garnered negligible votes. Notably, NOTA has received a total of 301 votes so far. Neetu Shattran Wala has received only 33 votes till 5 rounds of counting.
The counting process is still underway, with 14 rounds in total. However, the early numbers are being seen as a positive signal for the ruling AAP in Punjab.
