In the latestdevelopment, Kapurthala Police has registered an FIR against comedian andplayback singer Sugandha Mishra for flouting the Covid-19 norms on her fairytalewedding day that took place on April 26.
Notably, the comedianMishra tied the nuptial knot with Dr. Sanket Bhosale at Club Cabana situated onGT Road on Jalandhar highway. However, nine days later when the couple was reliving the wedding moments through thevideos, there came an action from the police as the video surfaced all over theinternet.
Pertinently, the videoof the wedding was shared by Sugandha herself on her Instagram handle, whichpolice used as a piece of evidence to lodge an FIR against her. In the video, the wedding had nearly 100 people gathering whereasthe permitted number was 40.
However, now the question arises, Sugandha’s wedding ceremony was the talk of the town. From the print media to the online media, her petty wedding details were infront of everyone. Then why Administration showed laxity in their duty? Whythe Kapurthala Police did not visit the wedding venue on April 26 to check ifthe ceremony was taking place in compliance with the Covid-19 safety protocolsor not?
Also, avideo of reportedly a 'public figure' Simranjit Singh has shared a video on hissocial media account claiming that he had dialed 112 to lodge the complaintabout Sugandha Mishra’s wedding ceremony. He, in his video, has also addedthat he saw DSP Joginder Singh in his convoy outside the wedding venue, who wasmerely gazing at the event but, did not take any action on the violators.
Moreover, the FIR hasbeen registered in the name of Sugandha Mishra, her husband, and the hotelmanagers. Perhaps, the FIR does not reveal other names (Mishra's husband and hotel managers) and the home address is also missing which raises another question on the Kapurthala Police whohas just taken the action to be “pretentious.”
The delay in performingthe duty has also put the intentions of the Kapurthala police in suspicion.
On the flip side, two days before Sugandha’s marriage, another video from the Kapurthala district of Punjab surfaced in which anelected representative of Phagwara was seen tossing the Covid-19 norms in thewedding.
In the video, Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal couldbe seen dancing and enjoying a wedding function of the city’s former councilorDavinder Sapra’s daughter. From the video, it was also assumed that there weremore people at the party than allowed. Apart from this, no one in the video wasseen wearing a mask or practicing social distancing norms.
Pertinently, both the comedian’s and the politicians’ wedding took place in the same week that too in the vicinity of Kapurthala, however, local police action has differed for both sides. As of now, no FIR hasbeen registered against MLA Dhaliwal.
This isnot the first time that a celebrity has been charged for covid protocolviolation. Earlier, actor Jimmy Shergil and Gippy Grewal were also booked forthe violation but later were set free. The actors were shooting for theirupcoming movies; Jimmy in Ludhiana and Gippy in Rajpura.
