As Taliban took over presidential palace on August 15, the government of Afghanistan collapse creating panic among Afghans. Now, the Taliban’s one of the most dreaded leaders, Hibtullah Akhundzada is made the president of the country.

Since the capture of Kabul, people are trying to flee the country. Thousands of people rushed to the Kabul airport which led to the suspension of evacuation operations of almost all the nations.

Over 2,200 Afghan nationals studying in the institutions of India are deeply worried about their families back home. Where some hasn’t been able to contact their families for days, some did manage to contact them only to know how terrified and troubled are they.

A girl student studying in a private university in Punjab talked to TrueScoop news and mention how her family is suffering as the Taliban is slowly coming back to their old ways. The identity of the student is not revealed due to security concerns.

In an interview with True Scoop news, she mentioned that she managed to contact her family and got to know that a group of Taliban insurgents knocked on the doors of her home at midnight. She mentioned that people of the Taliban came to her home in Afghanistan around 12 am and asked if there are any weapons home.

Her father denied, telling them to come the next day because it was past midnight and there were women at home. The Taliban, on the other hand, forced them inside the house and said they have to search to be sure.

“It was midnight when they come to my home. They asked do you have any weapons in your home. My father denied and asked them to come tomorrow as it's midnight, there are women and children at home. But they came inside my home and did not leave until 3 am.”

Her father was obliged to seek help since the militants refused to leave their home even though it was 3 a.m. The Taliban militia was later ordered to leave and return the next day.

The disturbed student explained that her mother works for an NGO in Afghanistan that supports women's empowerment and rights in the war-torn country. Her family was assaulted by the militia because her mother is a social activist.

“This only happened because my mother for nine years worked in an NGO. She worked for women empowerment and women rights in Afghanistan. Some neighbours must have told Taliban about our family that’s why they assaulted my family at midnight.”

When asked whether the Taliban treats women with respect and prioritises citizen safety, the student stated that Taliban leaders say that they want to make people feel safe, but their actions contradict this statement.

“At midnight, they came to my house and assaulted my family. How can they feel safe if someone with guns comes knocking at their door at 12 a.m.?” “The leaders are simply stating that they value women's rights. I'm sure the Taliban will be back on its ways soon, and they'll make some extremely horrible decisions for the country,” the student said, expressing concerns for her family.

The Afghan student at Punjab has done everything possible to help her family stranded in the Taliban-ruled nation. She urged the government to evacuate her family and bring them to India, however, no one came forward for help.

She approached the Afghanistan embassy, the Canadian embassy but was turned down as officials said it's an emergency and no one could help until embassies in Afghanistan reopened.

“My family- father, mother and younger brother do not have passports, embassies, passport offices, everything is shut down in Afghanistan. My family don't know what to do.”

“Taliban is playing with my family. They are playing with the future of Afghanistan,” she added.

She further said that the future of Afghans is dark under the rule of Taliban. She is deeply worried about her families safety.

“There is no place for me in my own country. I came to India to complete graduation but what does this degree worth if I can’t help my family, my country.”
