All civil flight operations at these airports will continue to be suspended for the duration. "Operating airlines and flight operators have been instructed to consider alternative routings by existing air traffic advisories."
The temporary shutdown is being handled in coordination with concerned ATC units to maintain safety and reduce disruption, the ministry further added.
Major carrier Air India stated that in the current situation, "we urge all travelers to stay informed."
"After a communication from aviation officials on the sustained closure of several Indian airports, flights of Air India to and from these 9 airports - Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot—are cancelled until 0529 hours of 15 May. But the situation is still changing, and we urge our customers to see our official social media channels for the latest," said the carrier.
In accordance with the instructions from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security to tighten security at airports nationwide, passengers are requested to report at least three hours before their scheduled departure at their respective airports to facilitate smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in is closed 75 minutes before departure.
According to the advisory by Delhi airport, passengers should expect extra time at security points and be patient with the airline and security personnel for smooth processing. We request all passengers check their flight status on our website before arrival at the airport," Air India added.
