Ajay Devgn has recently revealed the release date for the film along with the first poster of the movie. Ajay Devgn is a popular name in the genre of comedy films. His works in this genre include films like ‘Bol Bachchan’, ‘Golmaal’, ‘Total Dhamaal’, ‘Son of Sardaar’ and many more. He has finally announced the release date of this much-awaited sequel to his 2012 blockbuster film ‘Son of Sardaar’, and has left the fans thrilled. 

On 19 June 2025, he took to his social media handles and announced the release date, along with revealing the first poster of the movie. While sharing the poster, he wrote “The Return of the Sardaar. #SOS2 in cinemas near you on 25th July”.

The first instalment featured Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha in leading roles, but in this sequel, Mrunal Thakur will be seen as the lead actress opposite Ajay Devgn, who is reprising his role. Sanjay Dutt, who played ‘Billu’, was meant to reprise his role, but due to his inability to join the overseas schedule, he was replaced by Ravi Kishan, but he confirmed that he still will be a part of the film. Vijay Raaz, who was signed for this project, was dropped later due to a controversy and was replaced by Sanjay Mishra.

Backed by Devgn Films, Jio Studios, and T-Series, and directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the new instalment is arriving nearly 12 years after the original. The original film revolves around Jassie, who returns to his hometown in Punjab, where he learns about the rivalry between the Sandhus and the Randhawas, and the vow of Balwinder ‘Billu’ Singh Sandhu to remain unmarried until he kills Randhawa’s son, that is Jassie (Ajay Devgn’s character). The film portrays the struggle of Jassie to survive in that village and promises comedy, humour, emotions, and action, eventually proving to be a complete entertainer. 

The makers have not revealed much about the second sequel, but the first look of Ajay Devgn caressing his moustache while standing on top of 2 tanks in the first poster was enough to generate a buzz among the fans, Ajay Devgn’s look is being lauded and praised by the fans all over social media, afterall the excitement of watching their favourite character once again on the big screen cannot be hidden.

Mukul Dev’s last appearance

In this joyous environment, one thing that saddens everyone, including the fans, cast, crew and filmmakers, is the loss of a veteran actor, ‘Mukul Dev’, who was also a part of the first sequel ‘Son of Sardaar’ in which he played the character named ‘Tony Singh Sandhu’ and had a special place in the hearts of the viewers.

Mukul Dev, renowned for his roles in Hindi and Punjabi cinema, passed away at the age of 54 on 23 May 2025, following a brief illness. This will be the last time the audience will have the opportunity to watch Mukul Dev on the big screen and enjoy his performance. But he will always be remembered through his remarkable works in the industry and will forever stay in the hearts of all the fans.
