Review: Over the years, Rohit Shetty has subtly enlarged his cop universe, keeping the audience interested and die-hard fans of the genre on the edge of their seats. Following the success of Ajay Devgn's Singham series and Ranveer Singh's Simbaa, Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) arrives amid great pomp, turmoil, and loud theatrics. Simmba ended with a subtle reveal of Sooryavanshi's character. The film has all of the traits of a Rohit Shetty film: attitude, style, and showmanship.

Likewise to Simmba, Ajay Devgn narrates this cop action saga, which reminds us of the various terror attacks that Mumbai has faced, from the 1993 serial blasts to the 2008 terror attack on several landmark locations in Mumbai, including The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The plot of the film unfolds as the city prepares for the largest attack yet, with some Lashkar sleeper cells being activated and 600 kilogrammes of RDX left over from the 1993 serial bombings being utilised for the purpose.

DCP Veer Sooryavanshi arrives, armed with a solid objective and enough of garam khoon to defend the city from yet another major attack. He is so dedicated to his job that his family, including his wife Riya (Katrina Kaif) and son Aryan, come second to his enormous mission.
The film's cross-border narrative focuses around the theme of revenge, with the tagline "An eye for an eye makes the world blind." The action is daring and thrilling, but the storyline itself is simple and predictable.  The pursuit sequence on the streets of Bangkok between Veer and John (Sikander Kher) is a visual treat.

However, Sooryavanshi is littered with clichés, and the length, particularly in the first half, might benefit from a solid cut. It gets fascinating after the intermission, with heavy action and dhamaka.

Akshay Kumar gives an outstanding performance. He justifies his super policeman act, from his seeti-worthy entrance to the constant gunfire. Apart from the high-octane physical clashes, there are a slew of high-octane chases involving automobiles, motorcycles, and helicopters, in which Akshay Kumar demonstrates his indisputable action prowess. With his star power and screen presence looming huge, it's an Akshay Kumar show all the way. Katrina Kaif is beautiful on screen, and her seductive motions to the popular song 'Tip Tip Barsa Paani' are undeniably clap-worthy, but you can't replace Raveena Tandon, Bollywood's original 'Mast Mast' girl.

In the second half, Ajay Devgn and Ranvir Singh's crashing (literally) entrance enhances the picture and provides the striking punch. The three performers steal the show in the few sequences they have together as Bajirao Singham and Sangram Bhalerao, respectively.

The ensemble cast, which includes Jackie Shroff as Omar Afeez, as well as Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Kumud Mishra, and Nikitin Dheer as members of the terrorist gang, contributes significantly to the plot's development. On the other side, Jaaved Jaaferi's portrayal of ATS chief Kabir Shroff is spot-on in his role as a serious officer.

While Sooryavansi's background soundtrack establishes the tone, the songs themselves aren't very memorable. The new version of 'Najaa' is catchy, but we don't get to hear it in the movie. The three dancing to 'Aila Re Aillaa' by Daler Mehndi, on the other hand, is engaging.
With a hefty dosage of flying and somersaulting cars, Veer Sooryavanshi, Akshay Kumar has effectively taken over the role from his predecessors (Singham and Simmba), and this one is certainly a huge Diwali treat for you. And if you like high action movies, you'll love this!
