One of the tweaked rules stated that the previous year candidates who have cleared JEE Mains but failed to appear for both JEE-Advance papers due to Covid-19 pandemic are allowed to directly register for the JEE-Advance 2021 exam. The brochure claimed, “This is a one-time measure valid only for JEE-Advance 2021. These candidates will be considered in addition to and not as part of the total number of candidates who would qualify from JEE-Mains 2021 for appearing in JEE-Advance 2021.”

As of now, the eligibility criterion for appearance in the JEE-Advance exam was 75% or more in the Class 12 board exams. But now, as the central government has scrapped the board exams therefore for this year the eligibility criterion has been tweaked. The brochure read, “Candidates should have appeared and cleared their class 12 exams and should be among the top 2.5 lakh successful candidates including all categories in JEE-Mains 2021.”

Another change is related to the female quota seats in the IITs across the world. For the last three years, the supernumerary seats were allotted to the female candidates across the IITs of the country. But this year the quota would be different from one institution to another. The brochure said, “The number of supernumerary seats in various programs will be decided by individual IITs ensuring that every institute has at least 20% female enrolment in undergraduate programs.”
