Amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar has prohibited the use of firecrackers throughout the district. The prohibition will apply to all forms of fireworks, including conventional atishbazi, bombs, and Chinese crackers, and will be enforced during weddings, religious ceremonies, and other gatherings. The order will be valid until further notice.
The operation comes after heightened security concerns in the wake of recent military skirmishes between India and Pakistan. On May 7, India conducted "Operation Sindoor" against suspected terror camps within Pakistan's Punjab province and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for an April 22 attack on Indian-occupied Kashmir that took the lives of 26. Pakistan termed the attacks acts of war, confirming civilian casualties and threatening retaliation.
The subsequent military action has seen tighter security at border areas, like Amritsar. Protective measures are being adopted in not taking anything that will lead to more provocation or cause unease to the public. The firecracker ban is to cut off trigger points that would be interpreted as hostile provocation, making the public safer and peacemaking at this risky moment.
People are encouraged to obey the ban and assist local authorities in maintaining security and harmony within the region.
