Amritsar: Shiv Sena tries to burn Amritpal Singh’s effigy, gets into spat with Sikh protestors

In the latest development regarding Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh, atmosphere in Amritsar again became tense. Shiv Sena’s office bearers along with supporters tried to burn the effigies of Amritpal Singh and got into a verbal spat with Sikh groups who came there and protested to stop them.

Reportedly, on Thursday Shiv Sena’s officials and supporters gathered near Amritsar's Sant Singh Sukha Singh Chowk to protest against Waris Punjab De Chief. While they tried to burn his effigy on other hand as soon as Sikh groups got information about it, they also reached the spot. The Sikh protestors stated that they will not allow Amritpal Singh’s effigy to be burnt. Along with this, they raised allegations that Shiv Sena members speak against Sikhs every day and sometimes even burn the effigy of Bhindranwala.

As per information, Shiv Sena officials reached Sant Singh Sukha Singh Chowk to protest against Amritpal Singh after the clash that took place in Ajnala. They stated that on one hand, he attacked the police and also saved himself by taking shelter of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. They added that a person like this should not be spared by police. Due to this a verbal spat broke out between the Shiv Sena members and Sikh protestors. Later, police reached the spot and calmed down the situation.

For the unversed, a few days back Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh’s close aid Lovepreet Singh Toofan was arrested by Ajnala Police for kidnapping and assaulting a person. This led to the announcement of a peaceful protest by Amritpal Singh outside the concerned police station. However, the protest did not remain peaceful and turned into a violent clash where policemen were attacked with swords and stones. After this Toofan was released from jail as no evidence was found against him.
