New Delhi: Former Congress MP Ananda Bhaskar Rapolu on Thursday joined BJP in the attendance of Union Minister J P Nadda and BJP media in charge Anil Baluni.

Mr Nadda welcoming the ex Congressman to his party said that a former journalist, Mr Rapolu was one of the trailblazers who launched the Telengana statehood demand. Elected to the Rajya Sabha as Congress leader in 2012, Rapolu served the Upper House till 2018. Rapolu belongs to the OBC weaver community. Ropalu dedicated 25 years of his life to the Congress. Party sources have informed that Rapolu entry into BJP may uplift party's prospects in the Telangana Warrangal district.

Rapolu is not the first to quit Congress to join the Saffron Party. Former MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on March 31st resigned from Congress and announced his decision to join BJP. Karnataka lawmaker Umesh Jadhav had also joined BJP in Kalaburagi district two days after he quit the Congress. Earlier in February, 4 Congress MLAs namely: Jawahar Chavda, Parshottam Sabariya, Vallabh Dharaviya and Ashaben Patel resigned from the grand old party and joined the BJP.
