Arvind Kejriwal announces weekend curfew in Delhi amid huge spike in covid cases

The weekend curfew will come in effect from Friday 10pm to Monday 6am.

In view of recent surge in covid19 cases in Delhi, the CM Arvind Kejriwal today announced a weekend curfew to tackle the transmission. Besides, malls, gyms, spas, auditoriums in Delhi will remain closed and cinema halls will operate with 30 per cent capacity, said Kejriwal.

Essential services will be allowed and people are supposed to inform their wedding dates well in advance and they will be issued passes for the same. There will be special markets with special arrangements and no dine in at restaurants. We will implement more laws for wearing masks.

The weekend curfew will come in effect from Friday 10pm to Monday 6am. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other officials to discuss various restrictions.

Delhi on Thursday reported over 17,282 fresh cases, the highest single-day surge in the capital since the pandemic erupted.

Kejriwal in the virtual interaction said that there is no shortage of beds in hospitals in Delhi.

"Enforcement will be stricter at all public places and markets so that social distancing and use of masks should be implemented properly," Arvind Kejriwal said.

"The restrictions are for you, your lives and your health. I know that these restrictions will create problems, but it will help us in defeating the 4th wave of Corona," the Chief Minister added.
