A renowned actress of her time with a career spanning close two seven decades Asha Parekh is set to become the recipient of the prestigious ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award’ for her outstanding contribution to the Indian film industry.
Parekh, 69 will receive this award at the 68th National Film Awards which was organized last time in the year 2019, and the award was conferred upon the legendary Southern Superstar Rajnikanth.
Dada Saheb Phalke Award is the top recognition for any actor in the film industry and it is after 22 long years that this award is being received by a woman when Asha Bhosle received it in 2000.
Devika Rani was the first woman to receive the prestigious award in 1969 and was followed by Ruby Mayers, Kanan Devi, Durga Khote, Lata Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhosle with Parekh joining the elite list.

Asha Parekh was born on October 2nd, 1942 in Mumbai. The veteran actress has been running a Dance Academy and owns ‘BCJ Hospital and Asha Parekh Research Center.’

Asha Parekh was just 10 years old when she started her acting career. She started her acting career in 1952 and released ‘Aasmaan’ as a child artist. She faced a major setback in her career two years later only where decided not to work in the film after the massive failure of Bimal Roy’s directorial ‘Baap Beti’ released in 1954.
However, she decided to make a comeback aged 16 through Vijay Bhat’s ‘Gunj Uthi Sehnai’ but was denied the role saying she doesn’t bear the quality of being a star. But was given a role in Naseer Hussian’s directorial ‘Dil Deke Dekho’ released in 1959.
She starred opposite Shammi Kapoor and the movie was a superhit earning her a huge name in the industry. Hussian signed 6 films with Parekh on the trot after 1959’s grand success and all proved to be a blockbuster at the box office, including ‘Phir Wahi Dil Laya Hu’ and Teesri Manzil,' and never look back from then on
Asha Parekh has worked in over 95 films in her career and was seen last in 1999 ‘Sar Aankho Par.’ she has been conferred with lifetime achievement award a huge 11 times besides receiving the prestigious Padma Shri in the year 1992.
