ASI loses life in firing incident outside PAP complex in Jalandhar

Sources said the bullet was fired from the ASI’s Carbine Gun when he was on duty at gate number 3.

An Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI) deployed at Gate No. 3 in PAP, reportedly lost his life in a firing incident. A gunshot was heard late on Wednesday evening on the PAP campus, after which heavy police force rushed to the spot.

As per reports, the bullet was shot in the eye of the ASI, who died on the spot. The deceased cop has been identified as Sub-inspector Paramjit Singh (57), a resident of Adampur. He was presently residing at the PAP quarters only with his family including his wife and a son.

Sources said the bullet was fired from the ASI’s Carbine Gun when he was on duty at gate number 3.

SHO Cantt police station, Inspector, Azaib Singh, said it is yet to ascertain as to how the gunshot was fired. The deceased died on the spot after a bullet was misfired from the carbine gun of the deceased cop. The bullet pierced through the right eye of the cop and he died on the spot. The police were investigating the matter, SHO added.

Senior cops including; IG SK Kalia, Commandent Manjit Singh Dhesi and ACP Cantt Major Singh reached the spot. The deceased cop was posted as Sub-Inspector in PAP 27 Battalion.
