May bank holidays: From Buddha Purnima to Maharana Pratap Jayanti; Here’s the full list

May entered its third week with a bank holiday on Monday, May 12, 2025, due to the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Several states of India marked a long weekend as banks remained closed on May 11 due to Sunday, and on Monday, several states were closed due to the regional festival. 

However, this week has more holidays for some of the Indian states. Apart from May 12, a bank holiday will also be observed on May 16 and May 18. 

May 16, Friday

Statehood Day of Sikkim 

On this day, the banks will remain closed across the state of Sikkim to observe the State Day. 

May 18, Sunday

The banks across every state of India will remain closed as Sunday is marked as an official week-off for banks and their employees. 

Notably, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced six holidays, along with a week off on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays. The remaining holidays for the month of May 2025 are as follows - 

May 24, Saturday

The banks across the nation will remain closed on May 24, as it is the fourth Saturday of the month. 

May 25, Sunday

The banks across the nation will remain closed on May 25 due to Sunday.

May 26, Monday

Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam

May 26 will observe a holiday across the state of Tripura to mark the birth anniversary of famous Bengali poet, short story writer, journalist, lyricist, and musician Kazi Nazrul Islam. 

May 29, Thursday

Maharana Pratap Jayanti

On the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti, the banks will remain closed in some states of North India, including Himachal Pradesh. 

What can be accessed when banks are closed?

On the day off, the banks remain shut, and money cannot be deposited or withdrawn through the banks. However, it can be accessed through banking apps, ATMs, and net banking platforms. It is to be noted that all these services are open and available despite any national, local, or public holiday, until or unless any bank notifies about the technical issue or maintenance closure.
