The families of the victims of the Behbalkalan shooting say that if political parties would ask for votes on the issue, they will be boycotted. The family alleges that the current Congress government has completed four and a half years but an investigation in the matter has not been completed rather such a sensitive issue has been misused to get political mileage while victim’s families were waiting for justice.

In a press conference held at Chandigarh Press Club on Saturday, the families of those killed and injured in the Kotkapura shooting spoke in protest against the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and politics over the Behbal Kalan shooting. Sukhraj Singh, son of Sardar Krishna Bhagwan Singh who was killed in Balbalkalan police firing, Sardar Sadhu Singh, father of deceased Gurjit Singh and injured Ajit Singh was present.

Addressing media persons the kin of victims alleged that three SITs have been formed for investigation in the matter but no solution has been found till date. During this, the families of the victims targeting former PPCC Sunil Jakhar, said during the installation ceremony of Navjot Sidhu as New President of PPCC, Jakhar had said that the road to Punjab politics cross through Behbalkalan and Kotkapura, and we are asking Jakhar to give us justice and we will be with you.

One of the victim’s kin, Sukhraj said that accused involved in the shooting and desecration are still roaming freely. During the elections in 2017, Captain Amarinder had promised to give us justice by taking the oath of Gutka sahib and now elections are round the corner again but Captain Government failed to identify the culprits and punish them, whereas everything was clear in the CCTV footage.

“Salt is being sprinkled on our wounds time and again but now if votes are sought on these issues, we will protest along with the families,” he maintained. Sukhraj further said that Navjot Sidhu remains sat at home for four and a half years and now has started tweeting and talking about justice, so let me tell Sidhu that justice is not available on Twitter or FB.

“So far the investigation is being revolved around 5 Dera lovers while the name of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has reportedly been absolved,” he added. Sukhraj said he met the captain once and he said that he cannot interfere in the judiciary. “If it is so, then why they are asking for votes on this issue? The people of Punjab had pushed the Akalis behind the wall in 2017 and now it is the turn of Congress in 2022,” he added.

Sadhu Singh, father of 25-year-old Gurjit Singh, who was killed in the Behbalkalan shooting, said that politics is being done on this issue since the beginning. But fact is that till date neither any leader nor commission nor anyone from SIT has come and take their statements.

Meanwhile, Ajit Singh, who was injured in the firing told that bullets were fired on him claimed that the police had carried out the firing and lathi-charge with all due diligence.
